Lusail: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, along with key figures such as HE President of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, attended the second edition of the QOC Half Marathon 2026. This event was held at Lusail Boulevard, coinciding with the country's Sports Day celebrations and included the activities of "Qatar Team Village" and a Fun Run, under the umbrella of the Olympic Council of Asia.
According to Qatar News Agency, senior state officials, presidents of sports federations, and delegations from the Olympic Council of Asia and the Organizing Committee of the Aichi'Nagoya 2026 Asian Games were also in attendance. The presence of prominent Qatari sports stars like Mutaz Essa Barshim and Abdulrahman Samba highlighted the significance of the event. The marathon witnessed a record participation of over 10,000 runners from various backgrounds, with total attendance surpassing 15,000 people.
In a lively atmosphere, the Fun Run for children, supported by the Olympic Council of Asia, drew large crowds, emphasizing the growing importance of physical activity for a healthy lifestyle. The Qatar Olympic Committee recognized sponsors and partners for their contributions, also celebrating winners across various race categories.
Simultaneously, the QOC, in partnership with several Qatari sports federations, organized an array of activities at Qatar Team Village in Al Sa'ad Plaza. Families and children engaged in interactive games, sports competitions, and entertainment shows, fostering teamwork and enjoyment in a safe environment.
HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani expressed gratitude to the delegations of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Aichi'Nagoya 2026 Organizing Committee for their involvement. He emphasized that the event aligns with the vision of the Qatar Olympic Committee to unite the world through sustainable sports development and advances the Olympic movement globally.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al-Thani highlighted the exceptional participation and reiterated QOC's dedication to promoting "Sports for All," affirming the Half Marathon's place as a key community sporting initiative. The Organizing Committee ensured participant safety with logistical, technical, and medical support, marking the event's efficient execution.
