Qatar Olympic Committee President Crowns Alcaraz as Qatar ExxonMobil Open Champion

Doha: HE President of the Asian Olympic Council and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani crowned Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz today as the champion of the 2026 Qatar ExxonMobil Open men's tennis tournament in its 34th edition, which was held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. His Excellency presented the world No. 1 ranked Spanish player with the first-place trophy (the Golden Falcon), while French player Arthur Fils received the runner-up award, in the presence of HE President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash, Padel and Badminton Federation Nasser bin Ghanem Al Khelaifi. According to Qatar News Agency, Alcaraz secured his first Qatar Open title after defeating world No. 40 Arthur Fils in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-1, in the final. This victory marked Alcaraz's third win over Fils in their third meeting on the ATP Tour. The Spanish player, who has won 25 titles in his professional career, including seven Grand Slam titles (the most recent being the 2026 Aust ralian Open), claimed the Qatar title for the first time during his second consecutive appearance in Doha. Alcaraz had exited last year's tournament in the quarterfinals after losing to Czech player Jiri Lehecka in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, and 4-6. In this year's tournament, Alcaraz began his campaign in the main draw first round, defeating French player Arthur Rinderknech 6-4 and 7-6, before overcoming another French player, Valentin Royer, 6-2 and 7-5 in the second round to advance to the quarterfinals. He then defeated Russian player Karen Khachanov, the 2024 champion, in the quarterfinals in three sets, 6-7, 6-4, and 6-3. The Spanish star continued his strong performance in the semifinals by defeating Russian player Andrey Rublev, the 2025 champion, in straight sets, 7-6 and 6-4, to reach the final. Meanwhile, French player Arthur Fils, who has won three career titles, began his campaign with a three-set victory over Poland's Kamil Majchrzak, 6-7, 6-3, and 6-4, before defeating compatriot Quentin Halys in the round of 16, 6-1 and 7-6. In the quarterfinals, Fils defeated Czech player Jiri Lehecka in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3, and continued his strong run in the semifinals by overcoming another Czech player, Jakub Mensik, in straight sets, 6-4 and 7-6, to advance to the final.
