Cairo: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, is participating in the 22nd meeting of the Arab team concerned with following up on Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) related to desertification and biodiversity. The four-day meeting started Monday at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt. In a statement Monday, HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs sector in the Arab League Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki explained that this meeting is being held in implementation of the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs. The meeting will discuss several important items, including follow-up on the Conferences of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification and the initiative launched by the Arab League General Secretariat on climate change and nature-based solutions. A workshop for negotiators specializin g in the Desertification and Biodiversity Conventions will be held on the sidelines of this meeting to prepare for the work of the Conferences of the Parties. This workshop will be held in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), especially since the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, scheduled to be held from December 2 to 13.
