Qatar Praised for Hosting U18 Beach Volleyball World Championship

Doha: Qatar's successful hosting of the FIVB U18 Beach Volleyball World Championship has reinforced Doha's status as a global hub for major sporting events, according to a senior official from the Qatar Volleyball Association. QVA Secretary-General Youssef Ahmed Kanoo said the tournament-being held for the first time in the region-is a testament to Qatar's growing reputation for world-class sports organisation.

According to Qatar News Agency, hosting one or two international tournaments every year has given Qatar valuable experience, which is reflected in the high standards of the current championship at Al Gharafa Beach Courts, Kanoo told the agency. He added that the positive feedback from participating teams is a source of pride.

He noted that matches over the past three days have been highly competitive, adding that the intensity is expected to rise as the tournament progresses to its final stages. On Qatar's debut participation in the championship, Kanoo expressed satisfaction with the performance of the four Qatari teams involved.

Venezuelan coach Fernando Enrique, who leads the Qatari U18 beach volleyball team, echoed that sentiment, describing the tournament as a valuable learning opportunity. This was the first time Qatar participated in a world championship at this level. It was important for the players to experience this environment and compete against strong international teams, Enrique said.

He added that the experience would be vital in preparing for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics qualifiers.
