Qatar Reaffirms Commitment to Palestinian Cause and Regional Stability.

New York: The State of Qatar has emphasized that the path to regional stability and prosperity lies in achieving a comprehensive and just solution to the Palestinian cause, grounded in international law and UN resolutions. This solution requires ending the occupation, halting settlement activities, and affirming the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. Qatar has called for renewed international efforts to accept Palestine as a full member state of the United Nations. According to Qatar News Agency, this statement was delivered by Her Excellency Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations, during the General Assembly session on the Question of Palestine at the UN Headquarters in New York. Her Excellency urged the UN General Assembly to address the crisis facing the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which is crucial for humanitarian assistance in Gaza. She stressed the importance of supporting U NRWA's mandate according to General Assembly Resolution 302 and affirmed the right of Palestinian refugees to return, as guaranteed by General Assembly Resolution 194 and Security Council Resolution 237. Her Excellency highlighted the ongoing humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip due to prolonged Israeli aggression, which has impacted more than 44,000 victims and extended to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. She underscored the escalating Israeli attacks on Palestinians and other violations in the occupied territories, including infringements on religious sanctities and settlement expansions. She referenced the report by the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, which detailed violations of international law and relevant UN resolutions. Her Excellency expressed Qatar's pride in its mediation efforts, alongside Egypt and the United States, which led to a humanitarian ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners between Israel and Hamas last November. Her Excellen cy also noted Qatar's transparency in mediation efforts and its readiness to suspend mediation if no agreement was reached, while expressing willingness to resume efforts when a genuine commitment to ending the conflict and humanitarian suffering in Gaza is evident. Her Excellency reaffirmed Qatar's steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate rights, including self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital. Regarding Lebanon, Her Excellency welcomed the ceasefire agreement and praised the United States and France for their roles in facilitating it. She expressed hope for adherence to the agreement, cessation of military operations, and full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701. Her Excellency expressed optimism that this would lead to similar agreements to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the West Bank, reiterating Qatar's support for Lebanon's unity and its people.
