The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to support the exerted efforts made to foster the international partnership dedicated to achieving the sustainable development, emphasizing its keenness to persistently take ambitious measures and actions at the national level to fulfil the requirements of executing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and its ambitious goals, and remain on the path to achieve its development aspirations, including multiple achievements and progress.
This came during the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by the Second Secretary, Member of the State of Qatar’s delegation participation in 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly Wassaya bint Abdullah Al Dhaidah before the Second Committee of UN General Assembly relevant to the Economic and Financial Committee on the item of sustainable development.
Al Dhaidah said that development dominates the core priorities of Qatar National Vision 2030 that adopted human, social, economic and environmental development as its core pillars, noting that the national voluntary reviews (VNRs) submitted by the State of Qatar during the sessions of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which had elucidated the diverse national efforts on the track of achieving the sustainable development, highlighting the groundbreaking efforts made by the State of Qatar in fostering partnerships for development.
She added that ensuring the good and comprehensive education for all is one of the critical fields in pursuit of achieving the sustainable development goals, pointing out that the State of Qatar is working with the international partners in this field in commensurate with the pioneering and preponderant role of the State of Qatar at the international level to ensure the provision of qualitative education services, specially in the conflict-stricken areas.
Al Dhaidah also underlined the commitment of the State of Qatar to support the concerted efforts to foster the international partnership for the sake of achieving the sustainable development, and is working with the multi-lateral organizations, which enabled Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) to offer numerous new commitments in 2021, and fund the sustainable development projects and humanitarian relief which had made a positive impact on the life of millions of peoples worldwide.
She noted the contribution made by QFFD with over USD 551 million for the development projects and humanitarian aid, and said that the State of Qatar did not hesitate to support the international efforts devoted to mitigating the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, especially on the most vulnerable communities, where QFFD provided humanitarian aid in various resources, including medical supplies and health equipment.
She added that the State of Qatar is continuing its groundbreaking efforts and closely working with multiple UN bodies and entities to smoothly provide aid through the bilateral and multi-lateral agreements.
She pointed out, in this context, to the innovative and successful initiatives represented in the network of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) accelerator labs, since the State of Qatar is a founding investor in the labs network, whose operation has impacted the life of numerous peoples worldwide through the innovative measures and solutions the network is offering to deal with the development challenges, clarifying that the State of Qatar has recently announced an additional contribution with a total USD10 million for the labs network, bringing the total support provided to USD 30 million.
Al Dhaidah noted that the UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), whose second part is set to be held in Doha during March 5-9, 2023, will represent a milestone in the future and the transformation of the least developed countries, especially with respect to the contents of Doha Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries (DPoA) that entail ambitious measures and tools that will contribute to fulfilling the needs of those countries, calling on the international community to maintain the solidarity and synergy in the implementation of DPoA that would achieve the fair, comprehensive and sustainable development for these countries.
She expressed the State of Qatar’s aspiration, through hosting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament, to make this sporting event as one of the most prominent occasions to further spread the welcome message to the millions of people worldwide, as a unique opportunity for peace, development and understanding values among all world peoples.
She also expressed the State of Qatar’s happiness and pleasure that such global tournament, which will be held for the first time in the Middle East and Arab region, will be the most eco-friendly world cup in history, and will constitute a crucial opportunity for the State of Qatar to demonstrate its Arab identity and national culture, reaffirming the State of Qatar’s aspiration to welcome the participants from all over the world.
