Qatar SC, MoEHE Honor Winners of Seventh Promising Playwright Competition

Qatar: Qatar Sports Club, represented by its Youth Apparatus, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), represented by the Arts and Theatre Section of the Educational Guidance Department, honored the winners of the seventh Promising Playwright Competition. The competition recognized students, teachers, and parents from all educational levels-primary, preparatory, and secondary-who participated in the contest.

According to Qatar News Agency, the award ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Mohammed Abdulrahim Al Haydos, Head of the Youth Department at Qatar Sports Club, and Qasim Mohamed Al Shammari, Senior Visual Arts and Theatre Guidance Expert at MoEHE. Faculty members from participating schools and the students' parents were also present.

The competition is designed to unlock young people's creative energies in playwriting, encouraging engagement in authorship as a cultural activity that supports the Qatari theatre movement. Drawing over 140 students, the contest aims to enhance artistic sense, hone skills, and promote theatre as a tool for social expression.

The event provides a professional judging platform ensuring fair evaluation based on clear standards, transforming winning texts into production-ready projects that connect writing with live theatre. Al Haydos affirmed the contest's role in discovering artistic talents and nurturing the theatre movement.

The competition has previously helped winners achieve prominence in artistic events both locally and internationally, showcasing talents capable of mastering theatrical tools. Al Haydos highlighted the strong artistic infrastructure in Qatar, supported by actors, writers, and artists capable of producing exceptional work.

Al Haydos praised MoEHE's role in discovering and developing student skills, particularly in theatrical education, and the Arts and Theatre Section's efforts in nurturing student talent.

Qasim Mohamed Al Shammari emphasized the competition's role in guiding students towards writing diverse theatrical texts and enhancing their self-confidence. The award ceremony's dialogue session allowed students to present their texts publicly, reinforcing skills such as public speaking and performance.

Al Shammari confirmed that winning students would participate in workshops to further develop their talents, aiming to cultivate promising seeds for school theatre. Ahmed Youssef Al Badr, a member of the judging panel, noted the high quality of student works and the need for professional workshops to further develop their potential.

The competition is classified under educational theatre, with a focus on personal development, confidence-building, and communication skills. An interactive dialogue session at the ceremony allowed students to present and discuss their theatrical concepts.

In the primary girls' category, Romaisa Adel from Maymouna Primary School for Girls won first place, while Mohammed Rashid Al Adhba from Al Qadisiyah Model School for Boys won in the boys' category. At the preparatory level, Al Jory Badr Al Manna from Zainab Preparatory School for Girls and Louay Abdulhamid from Hamza bin Abdulmuttalib Preparatory School for Boys won first place. At the secondary level, Malak Al Asmar from Rawda bint Mohammed Secondary School for Girls received first place. Abu Ubaidah Preparatory School for Boys won in the teachers' category, and Maymouna Primary School for Girls won in the parents' category.
