Qatar Set to Join Key Asian Weightlifting Federation Meeting

Jianglang: The Qatar Weightlifting Federation is poised to participate in the Executive Board meeting of the Asian Weightlifting Federation, scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championship in Jianglang, China, from May 9 to 15. The meeting, which is set for tomorrow, Thursday, will address significant issues regarding the advancement of weightlifting in Asia.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting will be chaired by HE Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana. Al Mana holds multiple prestigious positions, including First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Vice President of the International Weightlifting Federation, and President of the Qatari, Arab, and Afro-Asian Weightlifting Federations. He will be accompanied by Jassim Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, alongside various technical and administrative officials.

The meeting aims to discuss the development of weightlifting across Asia, focusing on supporting national federations both technically and administratively. Key topics include enhancing training and certification programs for coaches and referees, reviewing the upcoming competition calendar, and evaluating development plans for youth categories. The meeting will also tackle the organizational standards for Asian competitions and work towards unifying participation regulations to promote integrity, transparency, and competitive fairness. These efforts are in preparation for the qualification rounds for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.

The ongoing 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championship in Jianglang, China, features robust participation, with 201 athletes from 28 countries, including 89 women and 112 men, competing across various weight categories.

HE Al Mana stated that the meeting is crucial amid current organizational challenges and the future opportunities for weightlifting at both Asian and international levels. He underlined the Executive Board's dedication to formulating a strategic plan aimed at sustainable success, broadening participation, and achieving further technical and administrative milestones. Al Mana also mentioned the meeting's goal to bolster Asia's role in the decision-making processes within the International Weightlifting Federation.

Additionally, Al Mana expressed his full support for the re-election of Iraqi official Mohammed Hassan Jaloud Al Shammari as President of the International Weightlifting Federation. The re-election is set to be confirmed at the federation's electoral congress in Saudi Arabia later this May.
