Qatar to Face Egypt in Arab Men’s Handball Championship Semifinals in Kuwait

Doha: The Qatari national handball team will take on its Egyptian counterpart tomorrow, Friday, in the semifinals of the 10th Arab Men's Handball Championship, currently underway in Kuwait and running through May 11. The tournament features nine participating teams: Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq, Tunisia, Morocco, the UAE, and Bahrain.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar secured its spot in the semifinals by topping Group B in the preliminary round, following victories over Saudi Arabia (31-22) and Tunisia (31-30). Egypt advanced as the best runner-up after defeating Iraq (39-31) and narrowly losing to Bahrain (32-36).

The other semifinal clash will see hosts Kuwait face off against Bahrain. Kuwait qualified by leading Group C with wins over Morocco (39-29) and the UAE (32-24), while Bahrain topped Group A after overcoming Iraq (28-26) and Egypt (36-32).

Egypt won the inaugural two editions of the Arab Men's Handball Championship in 1975 and 1977. Kuwait and Tunisia claimed two titles each in subsequent years, Kuwait in 1979 and 1988, and Tunisia in 1986 and 1993. Saudi Arabia won in 1998, Algeria in 2000, and Bahrain captured the most recent title in 2002.
