Doha: The State of Qatar is set to host the bureau meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) starting this Tuesday. The three-day event will be led by HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, the Chairperson of GANHRI and Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC). According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting is a significant opportunity to review progress, address challenges, and determine strategies to bolster National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) globally. HE Al Attiyah emphasized the importance of this meeting, stating, "This work is critical to advancing human rights globally, and our collective strength as a Global Alliance makes it possible." The gathering will include GANHRI Bureau members, such as the Chairperson, Secretary, Regional Chairpersons, representatives from the GANHRI Head Office, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The agenda for the meeting includes explori ng strategies to support, protect, and strengthen NHRIs, ensuring compliance with the UN Paris Principles, and amplifying their voices on global platforms. Attendees will work towards defining a clear path for supporting their initiatives while fostering enhanced collaboration and knowledge exchange among stakeholders. Key highlights will involve updates from regional networks and working groups, progress reports on activities, governance, and finance. There will also be discussions on maximizing collaboration and the adoption of the 2025 draft work plan and provisional budget. Additionally, the Bureau will receive updates from GANHRI's Sub Committee on Accreditation (SCA) and deliberate on strategic priorities for the upcoming year, as well as priority themes for the GANHRI Annual Meeting scheduled for March 2025.
