Qatar Welcomes Recognition of State of Palestine by Canada and Malta

Doha: The State of Qatar has expressed its approval of recent announcements from Canada and Malta regarding the recognition of the State of Palestine. Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Malta, Dr. Robert Abela, have both declared their countries' intentions to acknowledge Palestine as a sovereign state. Qatar views these moves as positive steps aligning with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions. This recognition is seen as significant support for the Palestinian people's rights, facilitating their pursuit of self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar issued a statement on Thursday highlighting that these decisions are consistent with the consensus reached during the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. The conference supports a roadmap focused on increasing international recognition of the State of Palestine.

The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reiterated Qatar's call for all countries that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to follow suit. Such actions would demonstrate a commitment to international law and support for the historical and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people concerning their national land.
