Qatar Wins Three Golds at Gulf Youth Athletics Championship in Doha

Doha: Qatar's athletics team claimed three gold medals on the opening day of the 18th edition of the Gulf Youth Athletics Championship on Sunday, held at the Qatar SC's track and field stadium. The event features teams from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates, and will run until May 7.

According to Qatar News Agency, the gold medals were won by Ibrahim Zakariya in the pole vault, Salah Younes in the 100-meter race, and Hatem Hamid in the 800-meter race. Zakariya secured first place in the pole vault with a leap of 4.90 meters, while Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Al Qadhihi took the silver with 4.70 meters. The bronze went to Qatar's Younes Al Blooshi, who cleared 4.50 meters.

Salah Younes claimed the gold in the 100 meters with a time of 10.38 seconds, while Saudi Arabia's Saud Haqawi won the silver in 10.67 seconds. The bronze medal was awarded to Saudi Arabia's Badaah Al Bishi, who finished in 10.73 seconds.

Qatar's Aafi Al Shammari took the silver in the javelin throw with a distance of 41.86 meters, behind Saudi Arabia's Musaad Al Oseimi, who clinched the gold with 51.52 meters. In the 800 meters, Qatar's Hatem Hamid won the gold with a time of 1:48.86 minutes. Kuwait's Abdul Latif Faisal earned the silver in 1:51.58 minutes, while the bronze went to the UAE's Mohamed Al Mas'abi with a time of 1:52.67 minutes.

The championship continues on Monday with six finals in the discus throw, high jump, and the 3,000-meter, 110-meter hurdles, 200-meter, and 400-meter events.
