QatarEnergy and JERA Ink 27-Year LNG Supply Agreement

Doha: QatarEnergy has entered into a 27-year Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with JERA, aimed at supplying Japan with up to 3 million tons per annum (MTPA) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar. The contract, signed during the 21st International Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas in Doha, is set to commence deliveries in 2028.

According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement was formalized by Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, alongside Yukio Kani, the Global CEO and Chair of JERA Inc. The signing ceremony also saw attendance from senior executives of both companies.

Minister Al Kaabi expressed satisfaction with the strengthened partnership with JERA, emphasizing their strategic relationship and commitment to supporting Japan's long-term energy requirements. He highlighted the collaboration that dates back to the early 1990s as evidence of the robust ties and shared objectives between the two entities in ensuring safe and reliable LNG supplies for Japan's economic growth.

JERA, a prominent energy company in Japan, operates across the entire energy value chain, which includes upstream development, fuel procurement, and power generation, as well as wholesale electricity and gas sales. With the largest power generation capacity in Japan, JERA is also recognized for its substantial fuel handling capabilities globally.
