Berlin: Qatari national team athlete Bassem Hemeida has officially qualified for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025 after clocking a time of 48.38 seconds in the 400m hurdles at the ISTAF International Athletics Meeting in Germany today.
According to Qatar News Agency, Hemeida finished the race in 48.38 seconds, securing his place among the elite athletes set to compete in the 400m hurdles at the World Championships, scheduled for September.
The World Athletics governing body had set a qualifying standard of 48.70 seconds for the 400m hurdles, which athletes could achieve through continental championships, the Diamond League, or certified European athletics meetings.
Hemeida's participation in the ISTAF Meeting in Germany is part of the Qatar Athletics Federation's strategic plan to qualify the maximum number of athletes for the World Championships by enabling them to compete in certified European events.
