Qatari Hassan Al Amri Named Chief Umpire for Asian Youth Games Table Tennis Competitions

Manama: The Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) has selected Hassan Al Amri, international referee and Chair of the Referees Committee at the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA), as the chief umpire for the 3rd Asian Youth Games table tennis competitions, which Bahrain is set to host from October 26 to 31, 2025. Elite emerging national teams from across Asia are set to participate in this tournament.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Amri also received a new assignment from the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation, serving as the chief referee for table tennis at the Islamic Solidarity Games, scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 8 to 13, 2025, reflecting the high level of trust he enjoys at both the Asian and global levels.

His presence extends beyond field refereeing, as he was recently selected by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) as an international lecturer and assessor of referees. In this role, he led the Blue Badge workshop for aspiring international referees and managed advanced refereeing examinations during the recent African Table Tennis Championship in Tunisia, one of the continent's premier events with broad participation from top African referees.

Al Amri is regarded as one of the most prominent refereeing figures in Qatari and Asian table tennis, having managed numerous major tournaments over the past years, including matches at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships for men and women. This is alongside his participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where he became the first Qatari referee in history to reach this level. He has also supervised multiple Asian, Gulf, and Arab competitions in various capacities as chief referee and international lecturer, earning the ITTF Blue Badge, one of the most prestigious professional achievements of his career.

Al Amri exemplifies successful Qatari refereeing that combines field expertise with academic capability in developing referee cadres, contributing to the qualification of many young referees through workshops and training courses conducted inside Qatar and beyond, establishing him as a trusted name on the continental and global stage.

This renewed recognition underscores the acknowledgment by Asian and global sports bodies of Qatari competencies in refereeing and sports administration and confirms the outstanding status achieved by Qatari refereeing, thanks to the robust support from QTTA, which prioritizes the advancement of national talents and enables them to participate in major international sporting platforms.
