Under the title of "the Country of Humanity", Al-Watan newspaper said in its editorial that yesterday, the world celebrated the World Humanitarian Day amid relentless efforts to demonstrate the firm commitment to providing aid to societies and humanity wherever they are, and to providing service to them without any conditions under the slogan "Whatever it is".
The Qatari daily newspaper underlined that there are 235 million people need humanitarian assistance and protection, pointing out that one in every 33 people around the world now needs humanitarian assistance.
Al-Watan added that here Qatar's role stands out as the government figures indicate that from 2012 until June 2019, Qatar provided aid worth $6.75 billion to more than 100 countries around the world. The State of Qatar also kept pace with all the immediate needs of war and conflict zones, the latest of which is Qatar pledged to provide $50 million to support efforts of humanitarian response plan in Sudan, the newspaper stated. Moreover, Qatar has taken the initiative to stand by the Sudanese brothers through operating an air bridge to deliver about 318 tons of aid.
Al-Watan affirmed that these efforts are consistent with supporting the needs of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which praised the strong approach taken by the State of Qatar in the field of humanitarian action, in which Qatar has become a model to be followed at the regional and global levels.
In conclusion, the Qatari daily newspaper underlined that the UNHCR said that the contributions made by the State of Qatar to the UNHCR has exceeded $382 million in a decade, which makes it one of the largest donors to UNHCR in the Middle East and North Africa region.
On the sports level, English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that in 2019, the State of Qatar hosted a spectacular edition of the World Athletics Championships, when the best athletes descended in Doha for the first global track and field spectacle held in the Arab region.
The newspaper underlined that the State of Qatar's unwavering commitment to excellence was evident in every aspect of the event which set a number of new benchmarks for hosting international sports competitions.
Under the headline "World remembers Doha 2019", The Peninsula said after Doha, the World Championships moved to Eugene, Oregon in the US, and now the Hungarian capital Budapest has come under the spotlight in hosting the famed spectacle.
The paper stated that Qatar's hopes at this year's Worlds are pinned on the reigning world high jump champion Mutaz Essa Barshim, as the three-time world champion aims to make it four in a row after winning the prestigious title at the 2017 London, 2019 Doha and 2022 Eugene World Championships. The team also includes Bassem Hemeida (400m hurdles) and Moaaz Ibrahim (discus throw), the newspaper added.
With all eyes set on the nine-day extravaganza in Budapest, the World will remember the spectacular Doha 2019 not only for the incredible athletic achievements but also for Qatar's exceptional ability to host a world-class event that left an indelible mark on the world of sports, The Peninsula concluded.
