Qatari Referees Continue Strong Presence in Asian Competitions

Doha: Qatari match officials continue to feature prominently in Asian football, with several referees and referee assessors taking part in the fifth round of the 2025-2026 AFC Champions League Elite and AFC Champions League 2 fixtures.

According to Qatar News Agency, a Qatari officiating team will take charge of the Chengdu Rongcheng (Chengdu Tianbao) vs Sanfrecce Hiroshima match in China on Tuesday. The crew includes Abdullah Al Athba as referee, Ramzan Al Nuaimi as first assistant referee, Majed Hadeers as second assistant referee, Abdulla Al Rowaili as fourth official, and Mohammed Ahmed Al Sharif as VAR.

Also on Tuesday, Meshaal Al Shammari will serve as Video Assistant Referee for the high-profile AFC Champions League clash between Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal and Iraq's Al Shorta in Riyadh.

On the level of referee assessors, Abdullah Al Bloushi has been appointed as referee assessor for Monday's AFC Champions League 2 match between Al Ahli Saudi and Sharjah in Jeddah. Later in the week, on Wednesday, Abdulrahman Abdo will serve as referee assessor for the Esteghlal (Iran) vs Al Wasl (UAE) fixture in Tehran.

The series of appointments highlights the continued confidence placed in Qatari referees and assessors by the Asian Football Confederation, reflecting their growing presence and reputation across major continental competitions.
