Doha: Qatari weightlifter Wissal Yakhlef excelled on the sixth day of competition at the 10th Qatar International Weightlifting Cup 2025, the Arab Championships for youth, junior, and senior categories, and the West Asian Championships for the same age groups. According to Qatar News Agency, these events, organized by the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, continue until tomorrow, Friday. Wissal secured nine gold medals in the over 86 kg category, with three medals each at the Qatar International Cup, the Arab Championships, and the West Asian Championships. The Qatari weightlifter delivered an impressive performance, lifting 116 kg in the snatch, 161 kg in the clean and jerk, and achieving a total weight of 277 kg. In the over 86 kg category at the 10th Qatar International Weightlifting Cup, Wissal triumphed over Thailand's Supachanen Khamheng, who won three silver medals, and South Korea's Lee Hyun, who secured three bronze medals. At the Arab Championships, Wissal outperformed Algerian Amina Mamoun Yahya a nd Egyptian Shams Mohamed Ahmed, securing top honors in all categories. In the West Asian Championships, she won three gold medals, notably lifting 161 kg in the clean and jerk, surpassing her previous record. Wissal Yakhlef expressed her joy at this milestone in her athletic career, especially after breaking her previous clean and jerk record. She credited her success to the support from the Qatar Weightlifting Federation and expressed her commitment to further development and representing Qatar in future competitions. Wissal highlighted her recent achievements, including three medals at the Islamic Solidarity Games - Riyadh 2025, and emphasized her high ambitions and dedication to representing Qatar at both continental and international levels.
