Qataris Secure Key Positions on International Weightlifting Federation Committees

Riyadh: Two Qatari officials have been elected to key committees within the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). Jassim Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, has secured a position on the IWF's Development and Education Committee, while Khalid Nabina, Assistant Secretary-General of the Qatar federation, has been elected to the IWF's Governance Committee. Both officials will serve in their respective roles from 2025 to 2029.

According to Qatar News Agency, the elections took place during the IWF Electoral Congress held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The congress also witnessed the re-election of Iraq's Mohammed Hassan Jalood Al Shammari as IWF President for a second term after his opponents withdrew from the race.

HE Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana, who serves as the First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, IWF Vice President, and president of the Qatari, Arab, Asian, and Afro-Asian federations, expressed immense pride in having two Qatari officials on IWF committees. He emphasized that the selection of Qatari representatives underscores the significant international trust in Qatar's leadership and its vision to advance weightlifting globally.

Al Mana praised Saudi Arabia for its excellent organization of the General Assembly and noted that Qatar's strong presence is a testament to its growing influence in international sports decision-making.

Al Mansouri expressed his satisfaction with the international confidence placed in him and affirmed his commitment to developing advanced training programs. His focus will be on the latest techniques, anti-doping awareness, and initiatives that support the global growth of weightlifting. He emphasized that his role on the Development and Education Committee will enable the transfer of Qatari expertise and knowledge exchange.

Nabina highlighted the significant responsibility associated with his membership on the Governance Committee. He stressed that sound governance is crucial for the sport's sustainability and for building trust within the global sports community.
