Qatar’s Active Role in Plastic Pollution Negotiations in South Korea.

Busan: The State of Qatar actively participated in the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5), which took place in Busan, South Korea, from November 25 to December 1. This significant gathering aimed at developing a legally binding agreement to combat plastic pollution. According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by Abdulhadi Nasser Al Marri, the Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry. In the lead-up to this crucial round of negotiations, Qatar focused on creating a unified Gulf position in collaboration with the GCC General Secretariat, a stance that was embraced by all GCC member states. Moreover, Qatar extended its efforts by presenting a consolidated position for Arab countries, aligned with the Gulf position. This stance was endorsed by the Arab League during the 35th session of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for Environmental Affairs, which convened in Jeddah in October 2024.
