Qatar’s Active Role in Promoting Peace and Sustainable Aviation Highlighted

Doha: Al-Sharq's editorial focused on Qatar's pivotal role in advancing sustainable peace, stability, and development both regionally and internationally. It emphasized that Qatar's foreign policy is firmly rooted in constitutional principles that prioritize international peace, security, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy.

According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial highlighted a significant event where HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani signed a document signifying Qatar's membership on the Board of Peace. This event took place during the charter's signing ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, with the presence of HE US President Donald Trump and other leaders and representatives of member states. This step underscores Qatar's commitment to multilateral cooperation and active engagement with the international community to tackle global challenges.

The editorial also pointed out Qatar's reaffirmation, alongside foreign ministers from eight Arab and Islamic countries, of its dedication to supporting the Board of Peace's mission. This includes promoting a permanent ceasefire, aiding in Gaza's reconstruction, and advancing a just and lasting peace based on Palestinian self-determination and statehood in accordance with international law. This commitment aims to ensure security and stability for all nations and peoples in the region.

Al-Sharq concluded by stating that under His Highness the Amir's leadership, Qatar continues to uphold peace, security, and development. The nation's proactive role in resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy has bolstered its global reputation as a peace-building nation and a reliable partner in enhancing global peace and security.

In a separate report, The Peninsula highlighted the latest aviation statistics from Qatar, indicating an evolution in managing growth at one of the world's busiest air travel hubs. With rising passenger traffic and increased aircraft movements, the report emphasized that sustainability and efficiency are becoming integral to this growth.

The Peninsula noted that Hamad International Airport is central to this transition. The expansion of Concourses D and E has increased capacity to 65 million passengers annually, with potential for further growth to 77 million through smarter optimization without extensive new construction. This reflects an understanding that sustainability involves efficient asset use as much as it does new developments. The airport's adoption of digital solutions is equally significant.

Qatar's commitment to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and international frameworks like ICAO's CORSIA demonstrates a resolve to align local growth with global climate commitments. Although full decarbonization faces challenges such as supply chain constraints and certification hurdles, the expectation of gradual progress by 2026 is seen as a realistic approach.

The Doha Declaration on aviation's digital future highlights how efficiency, security, and sustainability can progress simultaneously. Overall, the 2025 statistics suggest that Qatar aims not only to be a global aviation hub but also a regional benchmark for responsible growth, The Peninsula concluded.
