Qatar’s Commitment to Syrian Aid and Fintech Revolution

Doha: Al-Raya newspaper highlighted in its Thursday editorial the continuous aid provided by Qatar to the Syrian people, emphasizing the country's dedication to their cause and its vigilance over their ongoing struggles. Qatar upholds the belief in the right of all people to live with dignity and prosperity in stable, healthy, and safe societies.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya underlined Qatar's humanitarian mission, focusing on empowering individuals, supporting them during crises, and enhancing their resilience and capabilities. The paper mentioned Qatar's comprehensive logistical support to the Syrian Civil Defense Organization, also known as the White Helmets, which includes specialized equipment and machinery for search and rescue operations. This aid underscores Qatar's commitment to global humanitarian initiatives and international cooperation in disaster management and civilian protection, aligning with the Qatar National Vision.

The editorial noted Qatar's efforts in aiding Syrian professionals to perform their duties professionally in emergency situations, reflecting Qatar's steadfast commitment to enhancing humanitarian and relief work internationally.

In a separate editorial, The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, lauded the significant progress made by Qatar in the financial technology sector. The paper noted that the Qatar Central Bank has been pivotal in developing the financial sector, aligning with global best practices and standards.

The Thursday editorial titled 'Strides in Fintech Landscape' highlighted the success of Qatar's instant payment system, Fawran. This system has transformed the payment landscape by allowing users to transfer funds between local bank accounts instantly using a mobile phone number or IBAN, with reduced fees. The system offers instant payment transfers at a lower cost compared to the traditional banking methods used previously.

The Peninsula concluded that services like Fawran are crucial in Qatar's shift towards a cashless society, which significantly benefits the economy by enhancing payment security and reducing costs associated with handling physical cash. This transition also supports economic documentation and environmental sustainability by eliminating the need for printing and managing physical currency.
