Qatar’s Cultural Attache Highlights Significance of HH the Amir’s Visit to the UK.

London: The State of Qatar's Cultural Attache to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Fahad bin Mohammed Al Kuwari, has confirmed that the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the United Kingdom holds substantial significance for both nations. Al Kuwari emphasized that the relationship between Qatar and the UK encompasses multiple areas of collaboration. According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari Cultural Attache detailed how education serves as a pivotal element in the Qatari-British ties, particularly through partnerships in student scholarships, universities, schools, and institutional collaborations. He described the visit as a culmination of this long-standing and multifaceted relationship. Al Kuwari further highlighted the extensive cooperation between Qatar and the UK in education and culture, with a strong focus on higher education. The UK remains the top destination for Qatari students worldwide, with over 3,000 Qatari students currently pursuing their studie s in the UK. Additionally, nearly 3,300 Qatari students are enrolled in seven British universities located in Qatar. He also pointed out the attractiveness of the British educational system in Qatar, noting the presence of around 50 British schools operating in the country and more than 100 schools offering the British curriculum. Furthermore, over 19,000 candidates from Qatar take the IELTS exam annually. Al Kuwari noted that the growing investments between the two countries reflect an ongoing expansion in cooperation, particularly in higher education. Regarding scientific research collaboration, Al Kuwari emphasized that scientific research is a fundamental pillar of cooperation between Qatar and the United Kingdom. He highlighted ongoing collaborations between universities in the two countries, with many research projects funded by the Qatar National Research Fund. Numerous studies have also been conducted in partnership with the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, as well as through university partnerships. He emphasized Qatar's continued commitment to fostering collaboration in scientific research with the UK. Al Kuwari explained that the Cultural Attache Office provides a range of services, primarily strengthening cultural ties between Qatar and the UK, particularly in education and higher education. The office offers guidance and support to Qatari students, assisting them in gaining admission to top programs, and oversees them from their arrival in the UK until graduation. Medical services are also provided to students in collaboration with the Qatari Medical Attache Office. Throughout the year, the Cultural Office organizes a variety of activities and events, including scientific, research, sports, and cultural fields. Al Kuwari noted that, in collaboration with British institutions, the office offers summer training programs for Qatari students to prepare them for the job market in Qatar. He confirmed that several initiatives are being developed with the UK to attract m ore Qatari students to study there. One such initiative focuses on increasing the number of Qatari students at universities designated as elite institutions by Qatar, including four top universities: Cambridge, Oxford, UCL, and Imperial College. The goal is to encourage more Qatari students to apply to these prestigious universities, often referred to as the Ivy League of the UK. Additionally, there are over 20 highly regarded Russell Group universities in the UK. A recent study of Qatari high school students revealed that many have the potential to gain entry to these universities. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Kuwari pointed out an agreement between Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the UK's Department for Education to strengthen the partnership between the two countries. He mentioned ongoing efforts to reach additional agreements in cultural and educational areas. He added that engineering and scientific fields are among the top disciplines chosen by Qatari students s tudying in the UK, with interest in studying medicine surging in recent years. British universities offer several medical school places specifically reserved for Qatari students. Furthermore, Al Kuwari noted that the Cultural Attache's office in the UK works closely with British university branches in Doha, particularly regarding student exchanges between the two countries. This collaboration also includes sharing resources and information to enhance the academic experience for Qatari students.
