Qatar’s Diplomatic Efforts Lauded Globally for Rwanda-DRC Peace Agreement

Doha: HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, engaged in significant diplomatic discussions in Washington. Dr. Al Khulaifi met with HE Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs of the United States, Allison Hooker, during the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Additionally, he held talks with HE Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch, along with several other senators.

According to Qatar News Agency, the efforts by Qatar and the United States in facilitating the peace agreement received commendations from various international entities. HE Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, praised both nations for their roles in the agreement. Similarly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and Kuwait expressed appreciation for the diplomatic endeavors that led to this milestone. The Sultanate of Oman also welcomed the agreement, highlighting the constructive efforts by Qatar and the United States.

In other news, Qatar's participation in the 44th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference in Rome underscores its commitment to global food security. The conference, which began on Saturday, will continue until July 4. Meanwhile, the Shura Council took part in the 5th session of the 1st sitting of the 4th legislative term of the Arab Parliament in Cairo.

Domestically, Qatar celebrated the conclusion of the Qatfa program, organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in collaboration with Ajial Altarbwy Center. The ceremony took place at the Cultural Village Foundation- Katara, attended by HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Lolwah bint Rashid bin Mohammed Al Khater, alongside various officials, educators, and parents.

The Ministry of Labor held an introductory workshop on the role of the private sector in implementing the national job localization (Tawteen) plan. In another event, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs honored outstanding students from Quran learning centers at its annual ceremony.

Qatar Charity launched a Quran Literacy Project in Bangladesh to empower children with reading difficulties. The Behavioral Healthcare Center concluded a community engagement campaign in Doha, while QNB noted Indonesia's solid economic growth despite global challenges.

In sports, Umm Salal SC signed Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo, while Al Sadd SC secured Uruguayan player Agustin Soria on a long-term contract. Qatar's national snooker team concluded its participation in the 2025 Asian Championships, and Qatar Football Association announced the return of Hassan Al Haydos to the national team. Al Wakrah Sport Club appointed Spanish coach Vicente Moreno, and Qatari equestrians continued to achieve success in international competitions.
