Geneva: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Dr. Hind Abdul Rahman Al Muftah, participated in the opening of the 72nd session of the Trade and Development Board of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Muftah expressed her solidarity with the Arab Group, the Group of 77 and China, and the Asia-Pacific Group regarding the UNCTAD report on assistance to the Palestinian people. She emphasized the importance of supporting Palestinians amidst the worsening humanitarian situation and economic collapse due to ongoing conflicts.
Dr. Al Muftah emphasized Qatar's ongoing commitment to aiding the Palestinian people and alleviating their suffering. She reviewed Qatar's collaborative support efforts with various countries and organizations and urged the continuation of these efforts, aligning with the Geneva Consensus Declaration and the UNCTAD 16 conference's final document.
Expressing gratitude to the UNCTAD Secretariat for its annual report on Palestinian assistance, Dr. Al Muftah underscored the vital role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in providing essential humanitarian services. She called for unconditional political and financial support for UNRWA.
Dr. Al Muftah reiterated that sustainable peace can only be achieved through a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue, in line with international legitimacy resolutions, the New York Declaration, and the two-state solution. This solution should ensure the Palestinian people's rights to self-determination, return, and the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
