Qatar’s Role in Mediation and Promotion of Arabic Language Highlighted in Newspapers

Doha: Al-Watan newspaper emphasized Qatar's significant involvement in regional and international mediation over the past two decades, adopting a comprehensive approach to support dialogue for peace building and conflict resolution. Notably, Qatar participated in the tripartite mediation with Egypt and the United States between Hamas and Israel, achieving breakthroughs such as a temporary ceasefire and prisoner exchanges, despite encountering Israeli resistance.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Watan highlighted Qatar's crucial role in enhancing its international peacemaker reputation and its ongoing efforts with partners to secure a final ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate prisoner exchanges, and allow aid entry. The newspaper stressed the importance of resolving the conflict to prevent its continuation and urged the international community to recognize the Palestinian State.

In local matters, The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, reported on Qatar's initiatives to promote the Arabic language. These include a 2019 law by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani requiring Arabic in official communications and education. The paper also noted the Qatar Computing Research Institute's launch of the Fanar project, an Arabic AI Large Language Model, as part of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Digital Agenda 2030.

The Peninsula concluded by mentioning the Qatar Foundation's recent "Bilaraby Summit," a two-day event celebrating and promoting the Arabic language as a tool for expression, innovation, and identity. The summit aims to inspire Arabs to engage critically in Arabic.
