Qatar’s UN Envoy Engages in WTO’s Trade for Peace Discussions

Geneva: HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah participated in the discussions of the Trade for Peace Week at the World Trade Organization (WTO) headquarters in Geneva. In her statement, Her Excellency emphasized that the State of Qatar has always been a strong supporter of global peace and security, noting that its involvement in the Trade for Peace program is an extension of its broader commitment to conflict resolution and peace-building.

According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency added that as an active United Nations member and a supporter of multilateral diplomacy, the State of Qatar has allocated significant resources to enhance peace in regions affected by fragility and conflict. She pointed out that Qatar's contributions to peace-building cover vital areas such as mediation, humanitarian assistance, and women's empowerment.

Her Excellency said that this event represents an important opportunity to reflect on the progress made under the Trade for Peace program and to explore the growing role of trade in empowering women and fostering lasting peace and stability, especially in fragile and conflict-affected countries.

She noted that through the WTO, these countries aim to enhance their economic and trade policy frameworks, consolidate transparency, and improve governance in order to achieve peace and sustainable development. Her Excellency added that women in these fragile countries often face significant challenges in accessing education, business opportunities, and technical assistance. However, they bear a crucial part of achieving economic resilience and community development.

Her Excellency highlighted the importance of capacity-building programs in enhancing women's business skills and sustainable production methods. She emphasized the private sector's central role in supporting peace and economic development, not only through investment and economic growth but also by promoting responsible business practices and empowering women, which contribute to achieving peace and stability.

However, through adopting inclusive trade practices, gender-responsive policies, climate-friendly products targeting entrepreneurial women, as well as through technical and digital training, effective paths can be created to empower women to succeed in the global trade arena and promote economic stability and resilience in their communities.
