QBA and Australia Discuss Future Investment and Trade Cooperation

Doha: The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) recently engaged in discussions with an Australian delegation to explore avenues for enhancing trade and investment ties between Qatar and Australia. The meeting aimed to boost bilateral cooperation and economic activity between the two nations.

According to Qatar News Agency, the delegation was led by Ross Buchanan, the Agent-General for the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner - Europe. During his visit to Qatar, Buchanan expressed optimism about strengthening the intra-trade relationship. In response, HE Chairman of QBA Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani emphasized the association's readiness to visit Australia to identify investment opportunities, praising the economic facilitation and incentives Australia offers to foreign investors.

Buchanan highlighted the increase in bilateral trade volume, which doubled in 2024, and stressed the importance of enhancing travel and tourism flows, facilitating trade exchanges, and supporting official delegations. These efforts aim to expand partnership opportunities and deepen ties between the two countries.

In addition, Buchanan noted Australia's role as the host of the 2032 Olympic Games and pointed out investment opportunities in sport, construction, and tourism. He acknowledged Qatar's expertise in organizing major events, such as the previous World Cup, which could be beneficial for Australia's Olympic preparations.

HE Ambassador of Australia to Qatar Shane Flanagan praised the existing trade relationship and expressed a desire to further advance bilateral cooperation. He underscored the collaboration in sectors like food security, industry, and renewable energy, while also highlighting potential opportunities in education, technology, and cyberspace.

Furthermore, Flanagan mentioned the potential for sports cooperation as both countries prepare for upcoming major sporting events-the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane and the 2030 Asian Games in Doha.
