Doha: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) has announced the details of the local open blitz and rapid chess championship, which is scheduled to take place in Doha from Friday until May 17. The event brings together approximately 120 players from both genders. Based on the Swiss system, the rapid chess championship (Under-16 category) will be held over seven rounds, alongside the blitz chess, which will be held over nine rounds.
According to Qatar News Agency, holding this tournament falls within the framework of the QCA's policy aimed at bolstering partnerships with various entities across the nation, and it is witnessing broad participation in both the blitz and rapid categories, Executive Director of QCA Hamad Al Tamimi highlighted. Al Tamimi further added that the QCA is committed to holding a plethora of tournaments in shopping malls to spread the culture of this kind of sport in all regions across Doha.
He outlined that the previous tournament garnered colossal interaction on the part of players of Qatari teams from both genders, who were there in significant numbers, alongside the spectators. He emphasized that this kind of sport intends to have a generation capable of augmenting national teams and spearheading the sport in global forums.
