Samarkand: The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has appointed Mohammed Al Mudahka, President of the Qatar Chess Association (QCA), to oversee the forthcoming World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, set for September.

According to Qatar News Agency, this decision was made in recognition of Al Mudahka's exceptional contributions to the global development of chess and the successful hosting of the world chess championship in Qatar last December. The event received widespread acclaim from FIDE and participants alike.

The 46th World Chess Olympiad is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 24 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Al Mudahka expressed his delight at being chosen to oversee one of the premier global chess events and conveyed his gratitude for the international chess community's confidence in him.

In addition to his role as QCA President, Al Mudahka serves as the director of international relations at FIDE. He commended FIDE's leadership under Arkady Dvorkovich for its efforts to elevate the game across all levels, enhance its competitions, and broaden its reach to developing nations.

Al Mudahka highlighted the upcoming strategic focus on advancing chess in Asia, noting that Uzbekistan's hosting of the World Chess Olympiad aligns with its continuous support for the global chess movement. He also announced the participation of the Qatari team in the next Olympiad, emphasizing the significance of Qatar's involvement in such major tournaments for enhancing players' skills and gaining international experience.
