QCA to Organize First Edition of Classical Chess Tournament

Doha: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) announced, Sunday, that it will organize the first edition of the Classical Chess Tournament starting from Aug.29 to Sept.4, 2024.

In a statement QCA stated that the tournament will be devoted to men and women and competitions are set to be held at Qatar Chess Association Training Center. The opportunity will solely be given to Qatari players from both genders.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency , President of QCA Mohammed Al Madhahka, highlighted that the first edition of Qatar cup is one of the QCA's updated tournaments that aim to increase Qatari male and female fans, in addition to creating an environment conducive for players.

Al Madhahka indicated that the tournament comes as part of the QCA's plans dedicated to bringing about a qualitative leap for the game, emphasizing that the tournament is one of the precious opportunities before the national teams committee to explore further promising talents to be included in the coming period, in addition to expanding the process of selecting best players to represent the Qatari chess in tournaments abroad.

Upon concluding his remarks, Al Madhahka underlined that the tournament is incorporated into the major objectives set by the QCA's board of directors to promote the game and build a generation that feeds national teams with talented players who will rightfully compete in the Arab, continental and international games.
