QFFD and QRCS Launch Overland Aid Convoy to Deliver Essential Medications to Sudan

Doha: A Qatari humanitarian aid convoy comprising seven trucks, loaded with emergency and life-saving medications, has been deployed to support the health sector in Sudan, amidst the current humanitarian crisis there, in an initiative co-launched by Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS).

According to Qatar News Agency, this is the first of a series of trucked aid convoys planned by Qatar, with essential and emergency medications intended for the treatment of patients in Sudan. The initial shipment will be followed by additional ones, totaling 70 containers, or 1,400 pallets, of Qatari medical aid. This initiative aims to benefit around 500,000 patients across 12 Sudanese states, with a total cost exceeding QR 13.3 million.

In a statement, Acting Deputy Director-General for Development Projects Sector at QFFD, Fatima bint Jaber Al-Ahbabi, stated that the cooperation is driven by Qatar's humanitarian commitment to supporting the Sudanese people, especially as their health sector faces significant challenges due to ongoing conflict and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

Assistant Secretary-General for Relief and International Development at QRCS, Mohamed Bader Al-Sada, expressed gratitude towards QFFD for the initiative, which aligns with Qatar's ongoing contributions to humanitarian efforts in Sudan. He emphasized QRCS's readiness to implement the project through its office in Sudan, leveraging its expertise and logistical capabilities to ensure the effective delivery of medications.

The initiative highlights Qatar's dedication to aiding the people of Sudan and reinforces its efforts in humanitarian and development activities aimed at enhancing resilience in the face of ongoing challenges.
