QFZ Partners with WuXi Biologics to Boost Qatar’s Biopharmaceutical Sector

Doha: Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ) has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with WuXi Biologics, a global leader in biologics Contract Research, Development and Manufacturing Organization (CRDMO), to foster collaboration in biologics manufacturing, research and development, and biopharmaceutical innovation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU signing was witnessed by HE Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ), Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani, and executed by HE CEO of Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ), Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, alongside CEO of WuXi Biologics, Dr. Chris Chen. The event drew high-ranking officials and industry leaders from both nations.

QFZ announced that this strategic partnership sets the stage for WuXi Biologics' first integrated CRDMO center in the Middle East, strategically positioned within Qatar's free zones. This collaboration aims to bolster Qatar's biopharmaceutical ecosystem by attracting key suppliers, facilitating clinical trial networks, and establishing centers of excellence.

HE CEO of QFZ, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, emphasized, "This partnership strengthens Qatar's position as a reliable location for biopharmaceutical growth. By integrating WuXi Biologics' global expertise with Qatar's healthcare infrastructure and logistics, we are fostering an environment conducive to breakthrough research and high-value manufacturing."

The MoU further outlines opportunities for collaboration with Qatar's academic, medical, and research institutions to promote biopharmaceutical research and innovation. It also includes training initiatives to develop a skilled local workforce, establishing a framework for long-term cooperation that enhances Qatar's biotechnology resilience and supports WuXi Biologics' regional presence.
