Cairo: Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) actively participated in a series of meetings at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo, setting the stage for the 104th regular session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media and the 22nd session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, scheduled for next February in Kuwait.
According to Qatar News Agency, the QMC delegation was led by Abdullah Ghanem Al Binali Al Mohannadi, Director of International Cooperation and Agreements. The discussions addressed key topics such as the media's roadmap for sustainable development, cybersecurity, environmental issues, media and information literacy, and combating terrorism. These discussions underscore Qatar's commitment to leveraging media as a tool for societal advancement and security.
During the fifth meeting of the Expert Group on the Media Roadmap for Sustainable Development, QMC showcased its initiatives to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through awareness-raising programs on television and radio. Qatar Radio has been pivotal in these efforts, collaborating with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to produce high-quality content that enhances environmental awareness and the preservation of cultural heritage. Social media has also been utilized to further these objectives.
In addition to sustainable development, cybersecurity was a focal point during the 22nd meeting of the Arab Committee for Electronic Media. QMC presented a draft law on cybersecurity, highlighting Qatar's dedication to protecting its citizens from cyber threats. This initiative aligns with the media's role in fostering a cybersecurity culture and aims to enhance the nation's digital defenses through strategic media messaging.
The meeting also addressed the implementation of Resolution No. (566) concerning digital media strategies in Arab nations. Discussions centered on strengthening Arab websites and platforms against cyberattacks, while monitoring the impact of electronic games with violent content on societal security.
Environmental media strategies were further explored by QMC in a meeting dedicated to implementing a unified Arab plan for addressing environmental issues. The focus was on enhancing media's role in raising environmental awareness and supporting sustainable development. Plans for the Arab Forum for Environmental Media, slated for 2026, were also discussed.
QMC's involvement extended to the Arab Strategy for Media and Information Literacy, where strategies for implementation and activation of literacy programs were deliberated. Furthermore, the corporation participated in discussions on the role of Arab media in countering terrorism, emphasizing the need for a responsible media discourse that dismantles extremist ideologies and safeguards the youth.
In these meetings, QMC reiterated the necessity of collaborative media efforts among Arab countries to address regional challenges, highlighting the media's potential as a transformative force in society.
