QNA Director-General Highlights National Sports Day as Reflection of Qatar’s Commitment to Human Development

Doha: HE Director-General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi emphasized that the National Sports Day is a reflection of the wise leadership's dedication to human development and the belief that individuals are central to the nation's growth. He highlighted Qatar's distinction globally for setting aside a specific day annually to raise awareness about the role of sports in personal and societal development, making it a lifestyle choice. This initiative illustrates the country's commitment to enhancing health and physical fitness across society, aligning with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

According to Qatar News Agency, His Excellency noted that Qatar prioritizes sports, becoming a leader in the field due to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's understanding of sports' role in fostering a healthy populace contributing to national prosperity and sustainable development. Sports form a crucial element of Qatar National Vision 2030, prompting the issuance of Amiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, which established the second Tuesday of February annually as a sports day to motivate societal participation in sports and embed a culture of regular physical activity. This decision underscores Qatar's leadership and distinctiveness on the global stage.

He further explained that this year's National Sports Day, themed "Never Too Late," is an initiative designed to highlight sports' importance in individual and societal development, encouraging the integration of sports into daily routines. The day reflects the State's dedication to promoting health and fitness among all societal members, with 250 government and non-government organizations hosting sports events for men, women, children, and individuals with special needs to foster a healthy lifestyle. The day is marked as a public holiday to facilitate widespread participation in health-promoting activities.

HE Al Rumaihi stated that QNA places significant importance on Sports Day, providing extensive media coverage and organizing sports events for its employees and their families. He reiterated Qatar's status as a passionate sporting nation, attracting global athletes through its success in hosting international tournaments, notably the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Qatar's investment in state-of-the-art sports facilities underscores its commitment to the health and well-being of its citizens and residents. The National Sports Day exemplifies the leadership's focus on human development as a cornerstone of national progress.
