Doha: A senior German official has said that strengthening cooperation between Germany and Qatar in digitalization and technology is a strategic priority for both countries, as they work towards shared goals in economic transformation and digital innovation.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister for Digital Affairs and Infrastructure of Thuringia, Steffen Schutz, emphasized that both countries face similar challenges and see strong potential for collaboration, particularly in emerging technologies. "As a minister for digital and infrastructure in Germany, [it] is really important to get in touch with the Qatari people because I think we have the same challenges and the same goals to transform our economies," he said on the sidelines of the opening of the German Start-ups Pavilion at Web Summit Qatar 2026.
Schutz added that Germany places special emphasis on artificial intelligence and cyber security, highlighting the importance of partnerships with Qatar in these fields. He said rapid global changes require joint efforts to ensure the success of digital transformation and innovation, adding that cooperation between the two countries could help address common technological and economic challenges.
Schutz explained that his visit to Qatar aimed to gain insight into the country's digital transformation experience and to better understand the policies and strategies underpinning it. He noted that the progress observed during his visit demonstrates Qatar's growing and increasingly influential position in the global digital market.
He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to deepening bilateral relations and promoting the exchange of expertise between Germany and Qatar, in support of economic growth and technological innovation in both countries.
