QNL Highlights Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari’s Library at Seminar Series

Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) hosted the third edition of its seminar series, "Memory of Private Collections in Qatar," focusing on the significant private library of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Ansari, a renowned religious scholar and a founding member of Qatar's first religious institute in 1954. According to Qatar News Agency, Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari was instrumental in advancing knowledge and preserving Islamic heritage. He was known for publishing the Hijri and Gregorian calendars and prayer times in Qatar. His dedication to learning and religious guidance earned him the title of "Servant of Knowledge." The event celebrated his contributions to Qatar's intellectual and cultural heritage, as his collection of rare manuscripts, books, and historical documents mirrors the scientific and cultural renaissance in Qatar during the 20th century. Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library, emphasized that private collections are viewed as a vital part of Qatar's collective memory and intellectual heritage. "The 'Memory of Private Collections in Qatar' series signifies our dedication to preserving this legacy and honoring its early pioneers," he stated. Dr. Al Kuwari added that celebrating Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari's library is an acknowledgment of the figures who shaped Qatar's cultural consciousness and its role as a hub for knowledge and cultural dialogue. Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al Ansari, Dean of the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies at Qatar University and Deputy Chairman of Sheikh Abdullah Al Ansari Complex, discussed Sheikh Al Ansari's education and his role in the early educational renaissance in Qatar. In comments to the Qatar News Agency, he praised QNL's efforts in promoting knowledge and highlighted the seminar's importance in showcasing the scholarly legacy of Qatar's prominent figures. He encouraged future generations to draw inspiration from these achievements. Ali Al Ansari noted Sheikh Al Ansari's passion for books, editing, and pub lishing, contributing to over 250 works in the Arabic and Islamic library. He highlighted that Sheikh Al Ansari authored around 29 books and edited approximately 60 seminal works. Additionally, he oversaw the printing and publishing of about 130 books on Islamic heritage and various Qurans. The "Memory of Private Collections in Qatar" initiative by QNL aims to acknowledge the role of individuals and families in preserving Qatar's knowledge and culture for future generations.
