QOC President Receives Group 1 Trophy After Dominant Al Shaqab Victory at Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Festival

Paris: HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani received the prestigious Group 1 Qatar Trophy for three-year-old Purebred Arabian fillies, following the impressive victory of Sabahia, owned and bred by Al Shaqab Racing, in a feature race held at the Saint-Cloud Racecourse in Paris. The race was part of the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe festival, one of the most prominent events in the global horse racing calendar.

According to Qatar News Agency, Sabahia (Mahabb ‚¬Å¡¬€š¬ Majda), under top jockey Christophe Soumillon and trained by Fran§ois Rohaut, triumphed in the 2,000-meter race, which featured a competitive field of 15 fillies. She secured a commanding win by one and a quarter lengths, marking a significant achievement for Al Shaqab Racing and Qatari equestrian sport.

The podium was entirely swept by Al Shaqab Racing, with Amjard (by Azadi), trained by Thomas Fourcy and ridden by Jean-Bernard Eyquem, taking second place, while Al Banoud (also by Azadi), trained by Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte and ridden by Micka«l Barzalona, came in third. The top three finishers all represented Al Shaqab Racing, underscoring Qatar's dominance in the race.

Qatari success continued in the Group 1 Qatar Trophy for three-year-old Purebred Arabian colts, as Lafan, owned and bred by Al Wasmiyah Racing, captured the title. Trained by Fran§ois Rohaut and ridden by Maxime Guyon, Lafan (AF Al Buraq ‚¬Å¡¬€š¬ Ajayeb) won the 2,000-meter contest by the slimmest of margins - a nose - over Romeo AT, owned by Abdullah Mohammed bin Touq Al Marri and trained by Xavier Thomas-Demeaulte.

Sabaan Al Shahania (by Amer), owned by HE Sheikha Iman bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani and trained by Rohaut, finished third under jockey Stephane Pasquier.

With this latest win, Lafan remains unbeaten from four career starts, claiming his third Group race victory and second at Group 1 level. Meanwhile, Sabahia achieved her second career win and her first Group 1 title in just her third appearance.

The Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe festival continues this weekend at the prestigious ParisLongchamp Racecourse. Saturday's card will feature nine races, including three at Group 1 level and three at Group 2. The weekend culminates on Sunday with the much-anticipated Qatar Arabian World Cup (Group 1 for Purebred Arabians) and the iconic Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Group 1 for Thoroughbreds), the highlight of the international flat racing season.
