QRCS and BDRCS Initiate Shelter Project for Rohingya Refugees in Cox’s Bazar

Cox’s Bazar:Dhaka In a significant humanitarian effort, the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in partnership with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), has launched a project aimed at improving the living conditions of vulnerable families in the Rohingya refugee camps located in the Cox’s Bazar district.

According to Qatar News Agency, this new initiative, with a total budget of $517,877, will focus on constructing medium-term shelters and distributing essential nonfood items to 704 refugee families, benefiting approximately 4,224 individuals. The project addresses the dire challenges faced by refugees, such as overcrowding, fragile shelters, and frequent threats from monsoon rains, high winds, and fires, which pose significant risks to their safety and well-being.

The project prioritizes assistance for female-headed households, individuals with disabilities, older persons, and children under six years of age. A field assessment and verification process, conducted in collaboration with the implementing partner and relevant authorities, ensures that aid reaches those most in need.

Eng. Mohamed Thabet Safi, head of QRCS’s mission in Bangladesh, emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it aims to provide safe shelters and essential household supplies, thereby preserving the dignity of the refugee families and enabling them to manage their daily lives. The focus on high-standard implementation and rigorous beneficiary selection is intended to maximize the humanitarian impact of the initiative.
