QRCS Launches Anti-Blindness Initiative in Sudan for 12,000 Beneficiaries

Khartoum: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS)'s representation mission in Sudan has launched an anti-blindness initiative aimed at treating eye diseases for 12,000 beneficiaries across Gedaref, Khartoum, and Red Sea States.

According to Qatar News Agency, the project involves three medical convoys and is being executed in partnership with Al Basar International Foundation and Sudan's Federal Ministry of Health (MOH). So far, two medical convoys have been completed in Gedaref and Red Sea, providing free medical examinations, medications, and eyeglasses to 8,338 patients, while performing 776 cataract surgeries.

Preparations are underway to initiate the third medical convoy in collaboration with partners in Karari Locality, Khartoum. HE Qatar's Ambassador to Sudan, Mohamed bin Ibrahim Al Sada, emphasized that these medical convoys would play a role in combating eye diseases in the current context in Sudan and offer an opportunity for experience exchange among medical and technical professionals.

Dr. Esmat Mustafa, Senior Undersecretary of Sudan's MOH, commended the ongoing Qatari support for Sudan's health sector, noting the continuous cooperation from Qatar's Ambassador to Sudan with Sudan's MOH to provide medical aid and address the needs of the health system. The initiative was launched in celebration of Qatar National Day 2024.
