QRCS Launches Ramadan Iftar Project to Aid Over 538,000 Fasting People

Doha: With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has begun implementing the Ramadan Iftar project, which is part of its Ramadan Campaign 2025/1446 AH. Under the theme "Fruitful Giving", the project is aimed at ensuring food security for more than 538,000 fasting people in 16 countries.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative involves distributing Ramadan food parcels containing local staples to impoverished individuals in Qatar, Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Niger, Bangladesh, Lebanon, Jordan, Mauritania, Djibouti, Kenya, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan. QRCS's foreign offices are managing the Ramadan Iftar project in collaboration with fellow National Societies in the host communities.

In Lebanon, the QRCS office is distributing Ramadan food parcels to 11,700 Syrian refugees and economically disadvantaged Lebanese in the nation's poorest regions. Meanwhile, in partnership with the Jordan National Red Crescent Society (JNRCS), 1,233 food coupons are being distributed to 6,165 beneficiaries.

The distribution of Ramadan food parcels in Chad has been completed, with 400 families, or 2,400 beneficiaries, in N'Djamena receiving aid. Similarly, in cooperation with the Red Crescent Society of Djibouti, 351 underprivileged families, amounting to 2,106 beneficiaries, in 10 remote areas of Djibouti have received one-month food parcels to meet their dietary needs during Ramadan.

Food security and livelihoods are primary focus areas for QRCS. A comprehensive plan has been established to launch 33 food aid and livelihoods projects in 2025, benefiting 736,750 people in Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Syria, Yemen, Niger, Afghanistan, Somalia, Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, Bangladesh, and Mauritania. These projects encompass the distribution of food parcels, infant formula, and flour; six-month catering for orphanages and nursing homes; vocational training; and the provision of production resources and startup support for productive enterprises, at a total cost of QR 54,811,500.

In 2024, QRCS executed 66 food security and livelihoods projects, benefiting 1,266,675 individuals, at a total expenditure of QR 53,038,163.
