Doha, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has launched a new project to provide multi-sector emergency aid and durable health, nutrition, and shelter solutions for internally displaced people (IDPs), returnees, and the most vulnerable host communities in Al-Hudaydah Governorate, Yemen.
A press release by the QRCS today said that the purpose of the project is to meet the basic needs of 109,284 people, at an estimated cost of $2,066,805, funded by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs' (OCHA) Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF).
The project was launched during an introductory workshop held by QRCS's office in Al-Hudaydah and attended by representatives of the competent local authorities and medical facilities.
The participants learnt about the nature of emergency interventions and permanent solutions to be implemented in eight poor districts.
Under the project, there are three components: Health, Nutrition and Shelter. The project will enhance access to life-saving preventive and therapeutic nutrition services for children and pregnant women, by providing medicines and medical supplies, activating counseling hubs, and holding capacity-building training courses for health workers regarding nutrition, health preparedness, communicable disease control, and community health protection.
With respect to shelter field, the project involves the restoration of 80 homes, maintenance and upgrade of 700 makeshift shelters, distribution of 700 shelter toolkits, and solutions to reduce the impact of natural disasters for 200 affected families.
