QRCS Wraps Up Project to Empower Refugee Women in Bangladesh

Cox's Bazar: The representation mission of Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) in Bangladesh has concluded a handicraft training project to ensure self-dependency for poor women at the refugee camps of Cox's Bazar.

According to Qatar News Agency, the project was implemented in cooperation with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and the Turkish Red Crescent. By offering four-months long intensive practical training programs in sewing, fishing tool making, poultry farming, and agriculture, the project ensured sustainable livelihoods for 1,555 refugee women at camps, developing their skills to start their own small businesses.

Furthermore, 1,435 kits of nonfood items (NFIs) were distributed, containing comprehensive tools and supplies designed to facilitate the beneficiaries' startup and help them use the acquired skills in earning a sustainable income, thus improving their standard of living.

This project is part of QRCS's commitment to supporting the most vulnerable groups, especially women, by enhancing their capacity and empowering them socioeconomically. It also reflects the plans of QRCS's mission in Bangladesh to develop long-term interventions to improve livelihoods and create real opportunities for refugee women and the host community to integrate with dignity into economic life, in line with the humanitarian principles and Sustainable Development Goals.
