QRHC Chairperson Highlights Role of National Sports Day in Promoting Sports Culture

Doha: Chairperson of Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee, Yousef Jaham Al Kuwari, emphasized that the National Sports Day plays a crucial role in promoting the concept of "sports for all," benefiting individuals and society as a whole.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Kuwari remarked that dedicating a national day to sports is a commendable initiative aimed at instilling the concept of sports for all. He noted that the Sports Day provides an important opportunity to explore the range of sports activities available in Qatar. This initiative is in accordance with Amiri Decision No. 80 of 2011, which mandates that the second Tuesday of February each year be observed as a national sports day and an official holiday in the country.

Al Kuwari also highlighted that the National Sports Day enjoys extensive community participation, with numerous sports events and activities taking place in sports facilities across the nation.

He added that this widespread involvement signifies a growing awareness of the significance of sports as a key component of daily life, contributing to social cohesion and the development of an integrated society.

Al Kuwari stressed that the Sports Day is not merely a holiday, but an occasion to promote health and social values. It offers an opportunity for all members of society to engage in sports activities, showcasing Qatar's dedication to making sports a lifestyle choice.

He further pointed out that the Sports Day in Qatar is a unique national event that underscores the state's efforts to foster a sports culture and highlights the role of sports as a potent tool for achieving comprehensive community development.

Discussing the QRHC's activities on Sports Day, Al Kuwari mentioned that the committee has organized various events at different venues. Rugby activities will take place at Al Ersal Stadium in Onaiza, while hockey activities will be hosted at Qatar Foundation, the National Museum Park, Oxygen Park, and the Old Port Park. These events aim to introduce and promote rugby and hockey to the public.

Concluding his remarks to QNA, Al Kuwari extended an invitation to sports enthusiasts to participate in the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee's activities on Sports Day.
