QTerminals has become the first company in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and third in Asia to have complied with the standards and recommendations of the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) within the maritime transport sector (ports and services). In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport highlighted that QTerminals has received SBTi accreditation for its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its direct and indirect operations (Scopes 1 and 2) by 46.6% by 2030. This commitment aligns with the Qatar National Vision 2030's Environmental Development pillar, which focuses on preserving and protecting the environment, including air, land, marine, as well as biodiversity. The SBTi is a global effort launched in 2015 by the Global Joint Information Center, part of the World Wildlife Fund, the World Resources Institute, and the UN Global Compact, aiming to help companies develop their respective climate change projects using the latest climate science. Last month, QTer minals reported record productivity levels after handling 234.26 containers per hour, surpassing the previous record of 220.38, and also recorded the highest handling rate for TEUs in a single month.
