Al Khor: The quarterfinal stage of the 2nd edition of Captain Saeed Al Misnad Ramadan Mini-Football Tournament will commence on Sunday. Organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Sports and Youth and in collaboration with the Qatar Football Association, Aspire Zone Foundation, Qatar Police Sports Federation, and Al Khor Club, the tournament is being held at the outdoor fields of Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor.
According to Qatar News Agency, Barzan's Falcons secured their place in the quarterfinals by topping Group A with seven points. They are joined by Umm Al Jamajem, who finished second with six points. Later today, in the final round of Group C matches, Khalifa City, the current leader with six points, will face Al Qarayen, who are in second place with four points, in a game that will determine the group winner. Meanwhile, Al Captain will play against Halul in another Group C encounter.
In Group B, top-ranked Al Ghuwayriya, with six points, will meet Al Wakrah, who are in second place with four points, in a clash that will also decide the group leader. Yesterday's matches saw Umm Al Jamajem defeat Umm Al Afaei 5-2 in Group A, while Barzan Falcons secured a 9-7 victory over Shabab Al Thakhira in the same group. In Group B, Al Khor and Al Taawun ended their match in a 2-2 draw.
The 12 participating teams in the tournament were divided into three groups: Group A including Shabab Al Thakhira, Umm Al Jamajem, Barzan Falcons, and Umm Al Afaei. Group B includes Al Khor, Al Wakrah, Al Taawun, and Al Ghuwayriya, and Group C consists of Al Captain, Khalifa City, Halul, and Al Qarayen.
The first stage follows a single-round format, with the top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams advancing to the quarterfinals. According to the tournament regulations, each team comprises 12 players, with six players on the field. Matches last 40 minutes during the group stage and 50 minutes in the knockout rounds. Certified referees from the Qatar Football Association officiate the games. Prize allocations include QAR 30,000 for the champion and QAR 20,000 for the runner-up. Individual awards will also be presented for the best player, top scorer, and best goalkeeper.
