Regional Meeting on Digital Transformation of Intellectual Property Offices Convenes at Arab League

Cairo: The regional meeting on the digital transformation of intellectual property offices in Arab states was launched on Monday at the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting is organized by the Unit of Intellectual Property and Competitiveness, Legal Affairs Sector of the Arab League, in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The three-day event addresses a range of key topics, including the role of Arab states' intellectual property offices in protecting innovations and regulating the rights of innovators and inventors, the progress achieved in industrial property offices regarding digital transformation, and the role of the Arabic language in national and international intellectual property systems.

In addition, the meeting addresses the project to launch the Arab Electronic Intellectual Property Registry across the Arab states, the technical support tools provided by WIPO to enhance the work of industrial property offices in Arab countries in the field of digitalization, as well as a review of the most successful Arab experiences in the digital transformation of intellectual property.

In a statement today, Minister Plenipotentiary and Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Arab League, Dr. Maha Bakhit, highlighted that the meeting convenes at a time when the world is undergoing a rapid digital evolution, which has established itself as a key driver of economic and social development, as well as a central component for promoting an innovation-friendly environment. She noted that there has been ongoing productive cooperation since 2000 between the Arab League and WIPO.
