Russia, China Welcome Pakistan-Afghanistan Ceasefire Agreement

Moscow: Russia and China welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following negotiations held in Qatar.

According to Qatar News Agency, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated, "We welcome the agreement on a mutual ceasefire along the Afghan-Pakistani border, achieved between Kabul and Islamabad with the mediation of the Qatari and Turkish authorities." In her statement, she encouraged Kabul and Islamabad to expand their cooperation, particularly in countering terrorism.

Zakharova emphasized that the two countries' commitment to dialogue and resolving their disagreements through political and diplomatic means forms the foundation for maintaining peace and is crucial for ensuring regional security.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun also affirmed that his country supports the ceasefire agreement. He stressed China's backing for continued dialogue and consultations between Pakistan and Afghanistan to resolve their differences, aiming for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire and cooperation to maintain peace and stability in both nations and the broader region.

The negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan took place in Doha, mediated by Qatar and Turkey. During these talks, both sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire and the establishment of mechanisms to ensure lasting peace and stability between the two countries.
