Russia Claims Capture of Strategic Villages in Eastern Ukraine

Kyiv: The Russian troops have taken over the villages of Zelinovye in Kharkiv Oblast and Sukhitskoye in Donetsk Oblast, eastern Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry announced in a statement on Sunday. The statement detailed the successful acquisition of these areas as part of ongoing military operations in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the statement further mentioned that Russian forces inflicted casualties on the Ukrainian troops on multiple combat fronts in the special military operation over the past 24 hours, resulting in 1,085 troop casualties, including both fatalities and injuries. Additionally, the report noted the destruction of multiple Ukrainian military vehicles.

Russian air defense forces were reported to have shot down 94 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), along with several HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) and four guided aerial bombs. These actions are part of a broader strategy as Russian forces continue to assert control over more territories in eastern Ukraine.

The developments occur amidst ongoing US-led peace talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Over recent weeks, Russia has claimed several breakthroughs on various combat fronts, capturing new areas in the region, indicating a significant shift in control dynamics on the ground.
