Moscow: The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today that its forces have recaptured a couple of towns in Kursk Oblast, Russia, and in Sumy Oblast in northeastern Ukraine.
According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry reported that Russian forces targeted Ukrainian Armed Forces units across multiple battlefronts and successfully repelled two counterattacks. It estimated Ukrainian losses from these operations at over 350 soldiers, as well as one tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, five armored personnel carriers, 19 armored combat vehicles, 29 military trucks, six field artillery pieces, a mortar, an electronic warfare station, a radar station, an engineering repair vehicle, 11 drone control centers, and an ammunition depot.
The statement further detailed that Ukrainian losses in the Kursk direction since the start of the fighting have exceeded 65,930 troops, 387 tanks, 300 infantry fighting vehicles, 264 armored personnel carriers, 2,163 armored combat vehicles, 2,370 trucks, 528 artillery pieces, 52 multiple rocket launchers, 10 transport and loading vehicles, 119 electronic warfare stations, 15 counter-battery radars, nine air defense radars, 53 engineering units, 14 armored recovery and repair vehicles, and a command-and-control vehicle.
Ukrainian forces had launched a surprise attack on Russia's Kursk region in August last year and continue to maintain a presence in parts of the area.
